O Christmas Tree

Tyler and I got the most wonderful Christmas tree over the weekend when we were visiting my mom up in (western) northern Virginia.  We went to the tree farm my family used to go to when I was younger, the Snickers Gap Christmas Tree Farm.  I love going out in the cold air and searching for the perfect tree, and this year did not disappoint!  My mom thought it was too early for a tree, but we kept our tree alive last year for  quite a long time, but then again, she also prefers an artificial tree (ugh!).

You see, to get a nice coniferous tree, you need mountain air/streams….not river water like we have down in the Hampton Roads area.  Last year, while our tree was nice, it wasn’t great.  It was short and fat, but it did its job.  This year, we hit the tree jackpot.  We walked up huge hills and to the back of the lot to find our tree, then we looked downhill a little ways and we both chose the same Colorado Blue Spruce.

This is a cut-your-own-tree farm, so Tyler got to work with the little bow saw.

We dragged the tree back down to where they shake it out and measure it (ours is 7.5 feet tall), paid for it, and secured it to the car for its long ride back home.

Here are a few of my favorite ornaments on our tree:

This little Oreo ornament is one of those Hallmark ornaments. I've had this since I was teeny tine. And I love Oreos.

I got this at the Christmas Store last year for our first Christmas tree together. All trees need a Santa, and all trees need a polar bear :)

Tyler and I bought this at a Christmas shop in Victoria, BC back in March on vacation. We usually try to pick up an ornament wherever we go :)

How early do you put up your tree?  Real or artificial?

  1. I put my tree up last night! We have a fake tree right now, but I’m trying to convince my husband to get a real tree next year. We’re afraid our dog will eat it while we’re at work! Your tree looks beautiful and it looked like you had a lot of fun picking it out!

    • Thank you! I thought the same thing about our dogs, but for the past two years they haven’t bothered the tree–except for wagging tails knocking ornaments off :)
